Description
This auction is for a WESTERN ELECTRIC model 444 key telephone set, wired for use on a single line or a two line service. This model 444 AC is rotary dial, used as a stand-alone set meaning no common equipment was used, it came without illuminated buttons, and could be wired for 1,2 or 3 lines plus the 4’th button could be used for a signal buzzer or intercom talk path, or other features.
I have wired this set for use in a home or office with a one or two line service modular jack.
I have transitioned the hard-wired line cord to a 2 pair modular line cord within an enclosure designed for key telephone connections which has a peel and stick back for mounting.
When connected, the ringer rings with line 1 only and the first button must be depressed to answer or to make a call.
The second button must be depressed for use with line 2.
There is no HOLD button on this set, as it was not designed for the hold feature.
This set has a MFG Date stamped inside the cover of 1938 and the transmitter is stamped 1939.
The cover has no cracks or breaks and a few signs of minimal wear.
The front of the set has some residual of scotch tape, and my experience has taught me that any chemical that will remove tape will damage the thermoplastic case beyond repair.
Only one thing works that I
know of and that is a fingernail and a lot of patience.
Other than that it is very nice considering it is 82 years old.
Shipping will be
via USPS Priority Mail to the lower 48 only.
