The Hummel Christmas Cover Collection, (1985-1987), Postal Commemorative Society
From 1985-1987 the Postal Commemorative Society issued these beautiful Cachet covers which portrayed the paintings of  Sister
M.I. Hummel, a Nun who in the 1930’s began painting in a Franciscan convent in the tiny Bavarian town of Siessen.
Doris -Mae Lomas
ordered them in the 1980,s
and like many collectors she personalized them by having her name embossed
on the front
of the binder
and also her name and address printed on the address portion of each cover. Now deceased,
they were sold to me, and there is a total of 54 Hummel Cachet covers in this collection.

Each cachet cover pictures the rosy-checked, flaxen-haired children of the town in the poses of joyful childhood. This collection uses the affinity between Hummel cherubs and all U.S.Christmas stamps issued from 1962 until a point in 1987.
The postmarks on these Hummel Covers also add to the festiveness of the collection.They commemorate the date of the 1st public appearance of the Hummel art and the cancellation sites are cities and towns whose names are associated with Christmas.
