Buying a handpan can be a great experience if you follow a few simple guidelines.
Buying a handpan can be challenging due to multiple builders, lack of information, oversea scams and much more.
1. Select a price range for your Handpan.
Handpans have a wide variety of price ranges. It is important to note that the price does not necessarily indicate the quality of a handpan. Prices can range from roughly 00.00 to ,000.00.
2. Select a scale for your Handpan.
Handpans come in a wide variety of scales. Some of the most popular are C minor, C#minor, D minor, D Mystic, etc. This is where research on youtube / vimeo, etc comes in handy. Find a scale you love and then begin the journey of finding out who makes that scale.
3. Where to buy a Handpan.
When you buy a handpan you should alway research the builders first. Search for videos, reviews and sound files of the scale you want or search the builders video to get an idea of their work quality. If you don't seem to find any of these resources it should raise a red flag and you may be heading in the wrong direction. Its not a bad idea to browse ebay to see whats available.
4. Research or Talk to the Handpan builder.
If possible, (and it should be), contact the handpan builder directly by phone or email and discuss availability and options.
5. Waiting Lists
Most of the best builders have waiting lists which can be discouraging. Although they have an amazing product some of these waits can take months to years. Here at OHM Handpans we do not except waiting lists. We finish a handpan and list it. This could change in the future but for now we are trying to be on a first come first serve basis.
