The WLDR is a Harley Davidson racer with Sam Arena at the controls. Sam Arena was a AMA National Hillclimb Champion 1947-1950 Winner of 1938 AMA Pacific Coast Championship Harley racer, later a Harley Davidson dealer. TAKEN RIGHT AFTER WINNING THE 200 MLE RACE IN 1938. GREAT SHOT!
Sam Arena was a top motorcycle racer from the mid-1930s to the early 1950s. Arena excelled in multiple forms of motorcycle racing: dirt track, road racing, speedway and hill climbing. Besides his storied racing career in the United States, Arena also raced in Australia and England. Arena won AMA national hillclimb titles each year from 1947 to 1950, but his best-known victory was his win in the AMA Pacific Coast Championship at Oakland, California, in 1938. Arena shocked the star-studded field in that race and not only won, but broke the old record by more than 17 minutes. In 1938, Sam Arena ran a Sifton built bike in the Oakland 200 Mile Race. Tom had altered the piston rings so they constantly pumped a supply of oil to the top cylinders. His motor could operate at full throttle indefinitely. Sam ran the full 200 miles wide open, except for the fuel pit stop, and won the race, breaking the record by over 17 minutes. This would be a fantastic addition to your collection!
