What V-Power Means to the Motorcyclist:
    TORQUE—Unequaled torque is obtainable
in the V-type engine. The slow turning
    Harley-Davidson V-power engine has the
necessary torque to pull a high gear ratio
without “buzzing” the engine at high
R.P.M.’s. Thus, longer engine life is assured.
    FOR CRUISING—For cruising at moderate
or high speeds, over long distances, and for
riding double, no engine equals the V-type
We commend the Harley-Davidson Motor Company for its foresight in building V-type engines. Continuously, for over forty-four years, Harley-David-
son motorcycles have been powered by engines of the best design ever offered cyclists by engineers in the automotive field. We, as Harley-Davidson
dealers, appreciate the engineering that has made Harley-Davidson V-Powered Twins the finest and most dependable motorcycles ever manufactured.

The famous automobiles listed on this page have built their reputation using
V-type engines, and now for 1955, Chevrolet and Plymouth, the remaining cars
in the low-priced field, are turning to V-power. Practically all makes in every
price class are fast getting in line because of public acceptance and the recognized
engineering superiority of the V-type engine.
    V-TYPE ENGINES
    ARE WORLD-FAMOUS
    FOR TOP PERFORMANCE
    IN ALL FIELDS—
    THEY ARE CONSIDERED BEST BY
    WORLD-FAMOUS ENGINEERS AS EVI-
    DENCED BY THE FOLLOWING FACTS—
4 World’s fastest land record (John
Cobb's record car used two V-type
    engines).
4 The world’s fastest Hot Rod and
    America’s fastest car used V-type
    engines.
4 The world’s fastest motorboat is
    V-powered.
4 Ferrari and Maserati, fastest Italian
    racing cars, use V-lype engines.
4 V-type engines were used in the
Mexican road race by the winning
    Lincoln cars.
    4 A Lancia V-powered car has won
Mexican Race class for sports, cars.
    4 V-power is used in U. S. Army tanks
    the world over.
    4 The fastest propeller-driven air-
plane ever to cross the continent
    was V-powered.
4 Britain’s highest priced and fastest
    motorcycle has a V-type engine.
    Auto Makers Turning
    More to V-Motors
    DETROIT, Sept. 15 (AP)—The straight
    eight engine is rapidly disappearing.
Three new V-8 engines are ready for 1955
model presentation. A fourth is more than
a possibility. Pontiac and Chevrolet, in the
General Motors group, and Packard among
the small companies will have the newest
    V-8s.
At least one other manufacturer is
trying to contract with a V-8 engine
builder for this type of power plant for
    his 1955 models.
The trend toward V-8 design has been
evident since World War II. The V-design
lends itself more readily to the increased
power output and higher compression ratios
    sought by engine builders.
