A BIG 12 X 18 INCH PHOTO! A GREAT SHOT OF HARLEY DAVIDSON BOARDTRACK RACER RALPH HEPBURN PHOTO, CIRCA 1921.
Most people think of Indy 500 Racing when they hear the name Ralph Hepburn, but he was one heck of a motorcycle racer. He was born in 1896 in Somerville, Massachusetts, later moving to California at the age of 10. At the age of 18 he was barn storming with a group that rode the motordomes. Harley Davidson hired him in 1919 to be a factory racer. In 1921 he won the 200 mile National Championship at Ascot Park. He also raced for the Indian company and won national events on an Indian motorcycle. Hepburn died at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, May 16, 1948, in qualifying practice.
